Step-by-step knitting instructions
Step 1
Cast on 22 stitches on two needles in order to make the loops bigger. That way it will be easier to knit the first row.
Remove one needle.
Step2
1st row (right side) – knit all stitches to end
2nd row (wrong side) – sl.st.1, purl all stitches to end
3rd row – sl.st.1, k to end
4th row – sl.st.1, p to end
Step3
Ribbing
1st row (right side) – sl.st.1, [p1, k1] to last one st; p1
2nd row – sl.st.1, [sl.st.1*, k1] to last one st; p1
*keep yarn in front of your work
Alternate 1st and 2nd rows for 12 rows.
Step 4
1st row – sl.st.1, k to end
2nd row – sl.st.1, p to end
Step 5
Pattern
1st row (right side) – sl.st.1, [yo, sl.st.1**, k1] to last one st; k1
**keep yarn behind your work
2nd row – sl.st.1, [p1, p st and loop together] to last 1st; p1
3rd row – sl.st.1, [k1, yo, sl.st.1**] to last one st; k1
4th row – sl.st.1, [p st and loop together, p1] to last 1st; p1
Repeat the above till you reach the desired length of the scarf.
Step 6
Repeat steps 4, 3, and 2.
Step 7
Cast off, secure, and hide the tail of the yarn. I used all the yarn up for the scarf. However, it might not be your case and you may need to cut the yarn after casting off and then secure it.

hey, realy like the look of the scarf!! gonna knit for my bf :)
one question- on step 6- when i repeat the 3rd step: i need to make it as at first - for 12 times? or just one?
thank you!

Hi odeia,

Hi odeia,
Thanks for the good question. You need to work the end of the scarf (border) as a mirror reflection to the beginning of your scarf. In other words, it is necessary to knit as many rows as you did initially (step 3: work 12 rows) for the ribbing at the beginning of your project. Happy knitting!

Please show the video of step

Please show the video of step 5 for all the 4 rows in full as I am unable to knit the 3rd row in step 5 as shown in the video. Please let me know how to knit the 2nd row in step 5 till the last stitch

Hi Shaila,

Hi Shaila,
The repeat for each row is in [ ]. For the second row (step 5), it is necessary to [p1, p2tog*] to end. p2tog* means purl a regular stitch with a loop that you've created in your previous row together. 'To end' means that you need to repeat what is in [ ] to end of the row or alternate p1 and p2tog*. You may attach a picture of your work (as close as possible that I could see sts). That way it will be easier to understand for me what might be wrong.

Please reply to my above

Please reply to my above query as I have lost a lot of time trying to learn this pattern by watching your video .I would also like to know the name of this stitch. What is it called? Thanking you.Regards- Shaila

Ma'am I am attaching a photo

Ma'am I am attaching a photo clip of my knitting as per your instructions. I have knitted the second row of step 5 exactly as you have mentioned. But I don't seem to understand where I have gone wrong. In the 3rd row you have asked to slip one stitch & knit the second one where there are 2 stitches in one.I am unable to get that stitch in the second place. It comes after the first two stitches of the 2nd row.I hope I am not a bother. But I want to get it right desperately. Please help.Thanking you.Regards_Shaila

Thank you for explaining me

Thank you for explaining me more about your problem and giving me more details. When I watched the video again, I've noticed that at the very end of my 1st row (step 5) after knitting last repeat [make a loop, skip 1 st., and knit 1 st], I also knit the very last st of the row (Video: 10:25 - 10:35). Please let me know whether the pattern works for you after the correction. Thank you.

Thanks Ma'am for your

Thanks Ma'am for your response. I have knit the 1st row in step 5 exactly as shown in the video till the last stitch.I have a problem with the 2nd row.I knit the full row as per your instructions. But when I start the 3rd row I slip one stitch, then I have to knit the 2nd stitch (where there are 2 stitches attached from the previous row). This is where I encounter the problem. In my case the 3rd row becomes similar to the 1st row.
Why is this so? If I continue to knit, the pattern as you can see from the pic. sent by me is totally different.
I just want to know the knitting pattern of the 2nd row till the last stitch. I hope you will understand my problem. Sorry for the trouble.
Thanking you once again
Regards- Shaila

Hi Shaila,

Hi Shaila,
I've attach the picture of my end of the 2nd row (step 5). You may see that on my right working needle I have last purl st and on my left needle I will p2tog, then p1, p2tog, and p1. If that is the end of your 2nd row, then you should start the 3rd row correctly. Maybe try like me to cast on 22 sts one more time and make a small sample to practice the pattern (step 5), then come back to your scarf when you will be comfortable with the pattern. I've double check and knit the 3 rows of the pattern, and it works for me.

Thanks Ma'am for your great

Thanks Ma'am for your great help. I again tried a sample as you mentioned very eagerly. The end of the 2nd row should exactly be as shown by the sample pattern made by you But alas! The same problem. The last stitch of my second row is that double stitch which we pearl together. I did & redid the whole thing again & again. But no success. I think I should quit.Sorry for the trouble. If at all I get the stitch right I will definitely inform you. Thanking you once again. Regards- Shaila
