Step-by-step knitting instructions
Step 1
Cast on 22 stitches on two needles in order to make the loops bigger. That way it will be easier to knit the first row.
Remove one needle.
1st row (right side) – knit all stitches to end
2nd row (wrong side) –, purl all stitches to end
3rd row –, k to end
4th row –, p to end
1st row (right side) –, [p1, k1] to last one st; p1
2nd row –, [*, k1] to last one st; p1
*keep yarn in front of your work
Alternate 1st and 2nd rows for 12 rows.
Step 4
1st row –, k to end
2nd row –, p to end
Step 5
1st row (right side) –, [yo,**, k1] to last one st; k1
**keep yarn behind your work
2nd row –, [p1, p st and loop together] to last 1st; p1
3rd row –, [k1, yo,**] to last one st; k1
4th row –, [p st and loop together, p1] to last 1st; p1
Repeat the above till you reach the desired length of the scarf.
Step 6
Repeat steps 4, 3, and 2.
Step 7
Cast off, secure, and hide the tail of the yarn. I used all the yarn up for the scarf. However, it might not be your case and you may need to cut the yarn after casting off and then secure it.

[ ] - repeat
k – knit
p – purl – slip stitch
st – stitch
yo – yarn over

Knit a scarf for a man

See how on the top of the

See how on the top of the side it is purled while the other is knitted? I followed the instructions according to your video as well as the written ones. If it's supposed to be like that then that is fine but if not is there a way to turn those purl stitches into regular knit stitches after I finish the rest of the scarf?

Hi Aubree,

Hi Aubree,
Thank you for attaching the picture, now I see what you meant. It seems like you did not skip the very first stitch in each row. To skip a stitch, you need to slide the stitch from the left needle to the right one without knitting it. Please watch the video starting from about 4:24. To fix that, I would use a crochet hook and work edges.

HELLO HELLO!! I'm just very

HELLO HELLO!! I'm just very happy and proud that I've finished my sweater... I can't THANK YOU enough. I wanted to upload a picture but it can't upload it keeps saying "CAPTCHA session reuse attack detected"

Hi Minie,

Hi Minie,
I believe that you are talking about the video on this page Congratulations with your finished project!!! Please try to upload the picture of your work again. I would be happy to see your creation. For the L size, I would cast on about 180 stitches. If you will have questions, please make posts on the page above. Happy knitting!

Hi I wanna ask for step 5, r

Hi I wanna ask for step 5, r we supposed to repeat 1st row, then 2nd, then 3rd, then 2nd again, and back to 1st? Or is it just 2nd and 3rd? Thanks xd

Ellis Wan,

Ellis Wan,
Thanks for the good question. It is necessary to work the pattern as you've written the first time, after you knit the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rows (step 5), knit the 4th row as your 2nd one because the second and all even rows you need to work the same way. Then start knitting from the 1st row again. Happy knitting!

Hi. Thank you for sharing

Hi. Thank you for sharing this pattern. After completing the scarf, I realized that I made a mistake early on and made the pattern on the wrong side. Is there any way of fixing this without redoing the whole scarf? Thank you.

Hi glazki,

Hi glazki,
Early mistakes are hard to fix. I would redo the second ribbing to match it with the first one. I wouldn't want to redo the whole scarf also.

Hi, I really enjoyed the hat

Hi, I really enjoyed the hat pattern and thank you for sharing. I am having a bit of trouble with step 5 of the scarf pattern. I'm interpreting as knitting row 1, 2 and 3 and start again knitting 1,2 and 3 and repeating same to the desired length?

Hi Fguereca,

Hi Fguereca,
Yes, you've understood that correctly. It is necessary to repeat the pattern starting from the 1st row. Happy knitting!
