Bolero jacket crochet pattern - wildflowers stitch with bellflower borders
Step-by-step crochet instructions
Step 1
Make a foundation chain of 41 ch.sts.
Step 2
First half of the bolero
Right back part
1st row (right side) - h2ch, sc 39 + RC1
2nd row (wrong side) - h2ch, sc backwards to end plus RC1
When you work sc backwards on the wrong side, you get the sc stitch look on the right side.
3, 5, 6, 7, and 9 rows = 1st row
4, 6, 8, and 10 rows = 2nd row
Step 3
Increase chs to the back shoulder part
11th row - h2ch, sc to end + RC2
Note: you increase 1ch., working 2 returning chains instead of one at the end of a row.
12th row = 2nd row
13, 15, and 17 rows = 11th row (after that you should have 4chs more)
14, 16, and 18 rows = 2nd row
Step 4
Back shoulder piece
19, 21, 23, 25, and 27 rows = 1st row
20, 22, 24, 26, and 28 rows = 2nd row
Step 5
Armhole and front shoulder piece
29th row - h2ch, sc 14, sc2 on 1ch, sc5, ch23 (do not work the remaining base chains)
30th row - h2ch, sc backwards to end
31st row - h2ch, sc14, sc2 on 1ch, sc to end + RC1
32, 34, 36, 38, and 40 rows = 30th row
33, 35, 37, and 39 rows = 31st row
Step 6
Front main part
41st row - h2ch, sc 32 (or sc to last 10chs); do not work the remaining base chains
42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, and 54 rows = 30th row
43, 45, 47, 49, 51, 53, and 55 rows - sc to end
Step 7
Join shoulder pieces from the wrong side of the garment.
Step 8
Edges (including armhole edges) - work sc on the right side of the fabric and sc backwards on the wrong side.
Step 9
Second half of the bolero
You may make a new foundation chain and then later join the two halves of the top together or attach the yarn on the first foundation chain on the opposite side of the starting point. Then crochet the rows starting from the wrong side (sc backwards) to get the sc stitch look on the right side.
The second half of the bolero should be like a mirror reflection of the first one. The number of chains and rows should be the same. It is necessary to increase 1ch. at the end of 11th, 13th, 15th, and 17th rows to add 4chsg. In other words, do everything to get the first half bolero look.
Step 10
Borders
1st round (wrong side) - [yo, sk3, (dc1, ch1) x 4, dc1, sk3, sl.st.1] to end
bump - sc1, ch2, h2ch, sc1
2nd round (right side) - h2ch, [(bump1, sc1) x 4, sc3] to end

How to crochet a bolero jacket

Comments

Hi shubha1009,

Hi shubha1009,
Since it is necessary to crochet from the middle of the back to an armhole and then to middle of the front part, work more chains for the initial foundation chain to make the garment longer in length. To adjust the pattern to a different size, crochet 2 more rows in each of the 2 halves of the bolero - one row before the armhole (back part) and one row after the armhole (front part). Increase 4 rows in total. If your gauge will be different from mine, then estimate how many rows it is necessary to work to your tension and size accordingly. Happy crochet!

Hi....I already made this and

Hi....I already made this and it turned out very pretty. Thank you so much for sharing the pattern and I appreciate the effort you take to make the videos and especially in English...I'm sharing the pic. I'm planning to crochet another one for my friend but she wanted sleeves. How do I add sleeves to this shrug.

Hi sarvani,

Hi sarvani,
Thank you for sharing your beautiful work with us. I appreciate it. To add sleeves, I would attach the yarn underarm and work sc rounds decreasing gradually chains from underarms also. For example, you may decrease one chain every 4 rounds (or as many rounds as necessary). Happy crocheting!

Hi can you plz delete my pic.

Hi can you plz delete my pic....I'm not able to do dat. Will upload another pic and also a pic of another shrug I'm making with sleeves...thanks.

You're welcome, sarvani. I

You're welcome, sarvani. I love your adjustment to the pattern. The bolero with short sleeves looks beautiful and elegant. Congratulations!

Hi malarao,

Hi malarao,
For the XL size, I would work two extra rows in each back and front parts of the bolero. The more rows you add, the bigger bolero will be. The other way to adjust the size is to use a larger size crochet hook or thicker yarn. Happy crochet!
