What you might need in the hospital while delivering a baby

What you might need in the hospital depends on a person a lot. Some people like to use only their own things and don’t want to accept anything from the hospital. It is absolutely normal. Such people may take to the hospital everything from the list what to take with you to the hospital when you are having a baby and something extra depending on individual needs. On the other hand, many people wouldn’t mind to accept certain things that they will need only for one time and they never use them again. That can save you time on packing and money because some things you will have to through away once they are soiled.

Other thing is that you need to ask your hospital what will be provided there and whether you will be fine with that or you need to take some additional things that you feel like necessary for you. Also it is a good idea to take some prenatal classes in order to get information about the hospital and how things will go. They will explain also what you need before your labor.

Many hospitals in the U.S. provide their patients with everything what they need. Normally they give for the mommy a few nightgowns, socks, stretchy underwear, pads, food and drinks, medicine that she needs. For her baby they provide clothes, towels, diapers and wipes, formula. For her husband they provide a chair which can be unfolded to make a bad, a pillow and blanket. However, he has to go out to eat because the food and snacks will be given only to the patient and not for the person who stay with you.

Many women are so nervous before the labor that despite the fact that they were told that they should be provided with almost everything they take to the hospital many things that they don't need. Many patients indicate that from all stuff that they take to the hospital they might use approximately 10%. Other 90% they don’t need and don’t use. However, it is necessary to take such thing as dress to go home for you and the baby, car seat, and toiletry (toothpaste, toothbrush, hairbrush, some makeup). Therefore, it is totally unnecessary to take too much things in order not to waste your time for packing them and then unpacking them which can be even worse. Other option to ask someone from your family to bring you something that is needed. That way you won’t need to guess which weather will be in a few days after giving birth your baby and how many pound you will lose to know what cloths might suit for you.

When you get to the hospital you will be asked to change your cloth. They will give you their nightgown and socks. However, you can stay in your own gown and socks if you wish. You just need to bring something that you won’t miss after it gets bloody. You might have some bleeding even before the delivery. Therefore your socks might be in blood before having your baby. Of course, each woman has her own experience. Some women have relatively an easy labor and others have some complications. In any case after the labor normally women have some trouble to walk and weren’t allowed to take a shower for the first 24 hours. So, normally you won’t need anything special for the few days of staying in the hospital.
