Slouchy hat crochet pattern – rhombus stitch
Step-by-step crochet instructions
Crochet the hat from the bottom to top.
Step 1
Make a foundation chain of 73 chains or multiples of 9 chains plus 1 additional chain. I count all the loops including the loop on my hook. (To adjust the pattern, the foundation chain should be multiples of 9 chs plus 1ch for an even number of repeats and mult. of 9 chs for an odd number of repeats. The foundation chain should have an odd number of chs.) Join it into a ring with the slip stitch.
Step 2
1st round – ch2, hdc to end plus sl.st.1 into 2nd ch
2nd round – ch3, dc1 into loop*, [dc1, dc1 into loop] to end + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
*dc into loop – work dc into the loop right below your chain from the right side of the garment
3rd and 4th rounds = 2nd round
Step 3
Increase
5th round – ch3, dc1 into loop, then use two dcs before starting point and work dc1 into each loop, [inc1, (dc1, inc1) x 2, sk2, dc2 into loops, dc2 into loops above the 2 skipped dc] to last 5 chs; inc1, (dc1, inc1) x 2 + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
After the increase, you should have 96 chains and one loop on your crochet hook.
Step 4
Work the pattern without increasing chs
6th round – sl.st.1 into the next ch, ch3, [(dc1 into ch, dc1 into loop) above one dc of the prev. round, dc1 into loop, sk1, dc5, dc dec1, dc1 into loop, (dc1 into loop, dc1 into ch) above 1 dc of the prev.round] to last repeat; dc1 into ch, dc1 into loop) above one dc of the prev. round, dc into loop, sk1, dc5, dc dec1, (dc1 into loop) x 2 + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
7th round – ch3, [dc1, (dc1 into ch, dc1 into loop) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc1 into loop, sk1, dc3, dc dec1, dc1 into loop, (dc1 into loop, dc1 into ch) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc1] to last repeat; at the end of the last repeat, do not work the very last dc1, just work sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
8th round – ch3, [dc2, (dc1 into ch, dc1 into loop) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc1 into loop, sk1, dc1, dc dec1, dc1 into loop, (dc1 into loop, dc1 into ch) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc2] to last repeat; at the end of the last repeat, work just one dc instead of 2 + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
9th round – ch3, [dc3, (dc1 into ch, dc1 into loop) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc1 into loop, sk1, dc dec*1, (dc1 into loop, dc1 into ch) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc3] to last repeat; at the of the last repeat, work two dc instead of 3 + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
*dc dec – double crochet decrease – yo, insert a crochet hook into the following chain, and draw the yarn through (you should have 3 loops on your hook). Then pull the yarn through the first 2 loops on the hook (now you have 2 loops left on the hook). Do again yo, insert a hook into a loop right below the following chain, and draw the yarn through (you should have 4 loops on the hook). Pull the yarn through the 1st 2 loops on your hook and then through the remaining 3 loops on the hook.
10th round – ch3, [dc3, dc dec1, sk1, dc2 into loops, dc2 into loops of 2 skipped dc of the prev.round, dc4] to last repeat; dc3, dc dec1, sk1, dc2 into loops, dc2 into loops of 2 skipped dc of the prev.round, dc3 + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
11th round – ch3, [dc2, dc dec1, dc1 into loop, (dc1 into loop, dc1 into ch) above 1 dc of the prev.round, (dc1 into ch, dc1 into loop) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc1 into loop, sk1, dc3] to last repeat; at the of the last repeat, work two dc instead of 3 + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
Step 5
Decrease
12th round – ch3, [dc1, dc dec1, dc1 into loop, (dc1 into loop, dc1 into ch) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc dec1, (dc1 into ch, dc1 into loop) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc1 into loop, sk1, dc2] to last repeat; at the of the last repeat, work one dc instead of 2 + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
13th round – ch3, [dc dec1, dc1 into loop, (dc1 into loop, dc1 into ch) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc dec1, dc1, (dc1 into ch, dc1 into loop) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc1 into loop, sk1, dc1] to last repeat; dc dec1, dc1 into loop, (dc1 into loop, dc1 into ch) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc dec1, dc1, (dc1 into ch, dc1 into loop) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc1 into loop + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
14th round – sl.st.1, ch2, dc1 into loop, [(dc1 into loop, dc1 into ch) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc dec2, (dc1 into ch, dc1 into loop) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc1 into loop, sk1, dc dec*1] to last repeat; [(dc1 into loop, dc1 into ch) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc dec2, (dc1 into ch, dc1 into loop) above 1 dc of the prev.round, dc1 into loop + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
15th round – ch3, dc1 into loop, then use two dcs before starting point and work dc1 into each loop, [dc dec2, sk2, dc2 into loops, dc2 into loops of two skipped dc of the prev. round] to end + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
16th round – ch3, dc3 into loops, [dc dec*1, dc3 into loops] to last 2 chs; yo, sk1, insert a hook into a following ch, grab the yarn, and pull it, resulting in 3 loops on your hook. Then draw the yarn through the first 2 loops on the hook. Insert your hook into the 3rd ch from the starting point, grab the yarn, and pull it through the chain and 2 loops on your hook.
17th round – ch3, dc dec into loops to end + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
18th round – sc dec to end. Then cut the yarn and secure it from the wrong side of the hat.

I really enjoyed making this super cute hat.

I would love to translate this tutorial into Japanese and post it on my blog for Japanese crocheters.
Would that be alright with you?
I promise to credit you for designing it and I'll be sure to link it back to you once its uploaded.
Hope to hear from you soon.

You're welcome, ayaka. I'm

You're welcome, ayaka. I'm glad that you liked the pattern. I love the hat you've made. It looks very good! Congratulations! You may post your translation on my site only. To post/upload a copy of my work in any form on other sites would not be ok. I've designed this pattern myself and put a lot of hard work to it. Since you are a registered user, you can create a content for this site. To do so, go My account/Track/Create content. Then just share the link of your translation. Please let me know whether you will be willing to do so. Thank you.

Thank you Sana, I don't think

Thank you Sana, I don't think that I can create a content for this site.
I really respect your design and your hard work. I know making design is very hard work.
I would like to upload translation on this site.
As you said, I checked "My account" then open "Track" , but I can't find "Create content".
Please let me know what should I do. Thanks.

Hi ayaka,

Hi ayaka,
I added the permission, so now you are able to see/use the Create content button and upload the pattern. After you do it, the page will be in pink. That will mean that it is not published yet. I'll look at it and publish the page (I do not know your language, so I will not be able to edit it). I'll write you again when I see the content. Thank you.

I published the page, but I

I published the page, but I did not take into consideration the image size (I used 1.5 aspect ration for all my pictures). Would you mind to reupload the content on the other page? Please go My account/Track/Create content/Translation Patterns. There the size of images won't matter. I would move the content myself, but then you won't have access to it, and I do not want that to happen. I apologize for the confusion. Thank you.

Thank you, ayaka. I've

Thank you, ayaka. I've published the page and made the link active. I made a link on my page to your translation also.
