Poncho crochet pattern – women’s lace motifs top
Step-by-step crochet instructions
To make the poncho, crochet 14 motifs and join them together as you work the 16th round. In addition, crochet three small triangles and join two of them between the very bottom motifs and one triangle between two top motifs for the back part only.
Step 1
Motif
Make 6 chs and join it into a ring with the slip stitch.
1st round – ch2, sc7 into the ring plus sl.st.1 into the 2nd ch. from the starting point
Step 2
Begin working in continuous rounds
2nd round – [ch2, sk1, sc3 into 1 ch] x 4
3rd round – [ch3, sc1 under ch, sc3 (above sc3 of the prev. round)] x 4
4th round – [ch4, sc1 under ch, sc4 (above sc4 of the prev. round)] x 4
Step 3
Decrease one chain from the left side of each petal and increase 2 chs from the right one
5th round – [ch5, sc2 under chs, sc4 (above first 4 single crochets of the prev. round), sk1] x 4
6th round – [ch6, sc2 under chs, sc5 (above sc5 of the prev. round), sk1] x 4
7th round – [ch7, sc2 under chs, sc6 (above sc6 of the prev. round), sk1] x 4
8th round – [ch8, sc2 under chs, sc7 (above sc7 of the prev. round), sk1] x 4
9th round – [ch4, dc1 under ch, ch4, sc2 under chs, sc8 (above sc8 of the prev. round), sk1] x 4
10th round – [ch5, (sc1, ch3, sc1) above dc of the prev. round, ch5, sc2 under chs, sc9 (above sc9 of the prev. round), sk1] x 4
11th round – [ch5, sc3 into the arch of 3chs, ch5, sc2 under chs, sc10 (above sc10 of the prev. round), sk1] x 4
12th round – [ch5, sc1 under ch, sc3 above sc3 of the prev. round, sc1 under ch, ch5, sc2 under chs, sc11 (above sc11 of the prev. round), sk1] x 4
13th round – [ch5, sc1 under middle ch of an arch of 5 chs, ch5, sc1 into 3rd ch of the sc5 of the prev. round, ch5, sc1 into the arch of 5chs, ch5, sk2 single crochets, sc10] x 4
14th round – [(ch5, sc1 into an arch of 5chs) x 4, ch5, sk2 single crochets, sc7] x 4
15th round – [(ch5, sc1 into an arch of 5chs) x 3, (ch5, sc1) x 2 into same arch, ch5, sc1 into an arch, ch5, sk2 single crochets, sc4] x 4
16th round – [(ch5, sc1 into an arch of 5chs) x 4, ch9, (sc1 into an arch, ch5) x 3, sk2 single crochets, sc1] x 4
Cut the yarn and secure it from the wrong side of the motif.
Step 4
Join motifs
Second and all other motifs crochet as first one, joining motifs as you work the 16th round.
To join two motifs from one side (16th round) - (ch5, sc1 into an arch of 5chs) x 4, ch4, sc1 into the first motif (middle ch of an arch of 9chs), ch4, (sc1 into an arch {2nd motif}, ch2, sc1 into an arch {1st motif}, ch2) x 3, sk2 single crochets {2nd motif}, sc1 {2nd motif}), (ch2, sc1 into an arch {1st motif}, ch2, sc1 into an arch {2nd motif}) x 4, ch4, sc1 into an arch {1st motif}, ch4, (sc1 into an arch, ch5) x 3, sk2 single crochets, sc1, [(ch5, sc1 into an arch of 5chs) x 4, ch9, (sc1 into an arch, ch5) x 3, sk2 single crochets, sc1] x 2
If you need to join motifs from 2 or more sides, continue working (sc1 into an arch, ch2) after last ch4.
Step 5
Triangles
Make a foundation chain of 36 chs.
1st row (right side) – insert a hook into 11th ch from your hook, sc1, [ch5, sk5, sc1] x 3, ch3, trc1 into last ch + RC5
2nd row (wrong side) – sc1 into an arch, (ch5, sc1 into an arch) x 2, ch2, trc1 into 3rd ch + RC5
3rd row – sc1 into an arch, ch5, sc1 into an arch, ch2, trc1 into 3rd ch + RC5
4th row – sc1 into an arch, ch2, trc1 into 3rd ch + RC4
Join two triangles between bottom motifs for the front and back parts and one triangle between top two motifs for the back part only.
After you make last 4 chs, work sc1 into a sc st between arches of 9 chs. Then make 4 chs and work sc1 into an arch of the triangle. Continue joining the triangle with a motif as usual (ch2, sc1 into an arch) as you joint motifs.
Step 6
Bottom edge
Attach a thicker yarn, [ch5, sl.st.1 into the 1st ch of the 5 chs, sl.st.1 under the same arch, ch3, sl.st.1 into a following arch] to end
Neck edge
Work the neck edge as the bottom one, but use a smaller size crochet hook.

Hi I like your all patterns

Hi I like your all patterns
Currently working on this crochet lace poncho
I have crocheted few motifs and get confused. I do not have idea how to join other motifs. I have joined 1st + 2nd as i read and watch video. after this 2 how to join more motifs ?

One more question

One more question
Should i need to make all 13 motifs with 16 rounds and only 2nd motif with 15 round- then start joining all motifs? OR only 1st motif should be complete 16 rounds and all other motifs work as 2nd motif with 15 round -then 16th round is joining motif in your pattern?

Hi varsha,

Hi varsha,
You are right. It is necessary to work other motifs as 2nd motif joining them together as you work your last round. Happy crochet!
