Crochet a skirt - crossed stitch pattern
Step-by-step crochet instructions
Step 1
Make a foundation chain of 112 chain stitches plus 1 additional chain or multiples of 4 (4x28) chains + ch.1. Join the 1st and last chains with the slip stitch (sl.st.) to crochet in the round.
Step 2
1st round – single crochet (sc) to end
2 – 9 rounds – front loop single crochet (flsc) to end
Step 3
10th round – flsc to end plus sl.st.1 with the 1st chain of the following round
11th round – ch. 1 to pick up the height, double crochet (dc) to end + sl.st. 1 with the 2nd chain of the following round
12th round – ch.1, [skip 1, dc3, cr.st.1*] to end of the round + sl.st.1 in the 2nd ch. of the following round.
*cr.st. – crossed stitch - insert the crochet hook into the previous skipped chain, pull the yarn through. You should have 2 stitches on the hook. Yarn over (yo) and pull it through the 1st stitch on your hook. Then yo again and pull the yarn through the 2 stitches on the hook.
13 – 14 rounds – flsc to end
Step 4
Repeat step 3 or crochet as follows
15th round = 10th round
16th round = 11th round
17th round = 12th round
18 – 20 rounds – flsc to end
Step 5
Increase
21st round – continue flsc increasing chains with about even intervals between each increase or every 14 chains. You should have 8 chains more by the end of the round
22 – 30 – flsc to end
31st round – like 21st round, but increase every 15 chains
32 – 60 – flsc to end
Step 6
Repeat steps 3 and 4
If you want the skirt to be longer, crochet more rounds of flsc.
Step 7
Elastic
(you need about 1 yard of an elastic for the project)
To put the elastic in, attach the yarn to the initial foundation chain and join the 1st and 9th rounds together on the wrong side of your work, matching closely chains of both rounds. Insert the elastic into the opening using a pin and sew both ends together. After that, cover the hole entirely. Cut the yarn and secure it (if any).

I'm just reviewing your

I'm just reviewing your patterns and they are all for size 6. In making this skirt for a size 18 woman how many chains to I need and can it be longer

Hi Banks52,

Hi Banks52,
To adjust sizes, please look at multiples. This pattern requires multiples of 4 chs. This means that the number of your foundation chain should be dividable by 4. To make the skirt longer, please read step 6. Happy crochet!
