Let’s start from the beginning

We went to the nearby harbor on the Lake Michigan just to breathe fresh air on a warm day in the beginning of the fall. After getting some cold water from the cooler in the trunk of our 2016 Toyota Camry, my wife accidently locked the key in. The first thing we consider is to go home and get a spare key to open the car, but the key from the house were locked inside the trunk as well. Not to overthink much, we decided to contact 24-hours Toyota Roadside Assistance.

Calling Toyota

For some reason it was not just a direct line to speak with a real person. Only after few, one after another, chosen options I was able to speak with a representative. After providing a phone number how I can be reached, VIN number of the vehicle, car make, model, color and our exact location I was informed that Toyota will send help to resolve our issue. I’ve got text from Roadside CC saying reply STOP to end texts, or HELP for help. I just texted HELP.

Open Toyota Camry without a key

Upon arrival the service guy called on my cell asking exact place where I am. There were no complications and in a minute I saw our helper was approaching. In the next couple of minutes our 2016 Toyota Camry was opened keyless. At first, I was slightly pessimistic about the “tool” guy brought to open the vehicle and asked whether there won’t be any damages to the vehicle. But seems like it was a pro and after he got inside through the driver’s door there was not a single noticeable marks left on the car.

Timeframe

I called Toyota Roadside Assistance at 3 pm. and we got inside the car at about 4.30 pm. As simple about the time, I cannot compare this with anything even close, but I consider this is a well-organized and relatively fast service offered by Toyota. At about 5.30 I’ve got an automated call from Toyota asking whether we‘ve got help. I just answered “YES”.

The good and the bad

I’ve driven quite a few cars and never locked the key inside any of them. My number one rule is – just keep the key inside of your pocket and once it become a habit – it’s hard to forget. Now, my wife doesn’t have such habit, and often she even doesn’t have a pocket to put the key in. If you are experiencing issues with forgetting key inside the vehicle, this Toyota plan is a life safer for you and the only bad thing is – it’s only for two years. The other even better thing – you don’t pay someone to open your car if you buy a new Toyota – the bad thing again – it’s only for 2 years.
But if you have a habit – just not change it and high probability you will not waste 1.5 hours waiting for Toyota service come to open your vehicle.

And the survey…

…We were extremely satisfied with a service and will buy a new Toyota again!...
