Beginners stitch socks knitting pattern
Begin knitting the socks from the ribbing.
Cast on 44 sts or multiples of 4 sts. Redistribute sts between 3 double pointed needles.
Ribbing
1st round – [k2, p2] to end
2 – 20 rounds = 1st round
Increase
21st round – k31, inc.1, (k4, inc.1) x 3, k1
22 – 31 rounds – k to end
Heel
Decrease
Slide 2 sts from the 1st needle to the second one, and then slide 4 sts from the 2nd needle to the third one to have on the first two needles 12 sts respectively and 24 sts on the 3rd needle.
1st row (wrong side) – sl.st.1, p to end
2nd row (right side) – sl.st.1, k2togL, k to last 3sts; k2togR, k1
3rd row – sl.st.2, p to last 2 sts; sl.st.1, k1
Alternate 2nd and 3rd rows until you have 8 sts left.
Increase
Work k and p rows increasing sts by joining them to long side loops of decrease rows of the heel. Mark the long side loops of decrease rows before using them.
1st row (right side) – pick1*, sl.st.1, k to end, pick1k
2nd row (wrong side) – sl.st.1, p to end
Alternate 1st and 2nd rows until you use all long side loops of decrease rows and will have 24 sts on your needle. Add extra st/sts on each side of the heel to avoid developing holes.
Knit in the round
1st round – k to end
2nd round – k2togL, k to heel, k2togR, k to end
3 – 12 rounds = 1st round
Repeat the pattern starting from the 2nd round.
24th round = 2nd round
25 – 29 rounds = 1st round
Repeat the pattern starting from the 24th round until you knit to the end of your pinky toe.
Begin to decrease 2 sts every other round until you have about 26 sts left. Then work k2tog until you cover up the hole.
Cut the yarn and secure it from the inside of the sock.
Lace
Attach the yarn to the initial cast on sts of the ribbing. Pick up 44 sts.
1st round – [make a loop, k2tog] to end
2nd round – k to end
Cast off all the sts. Cut the yarn and secure it.
