Crochet women’s summer top - horizontal and vertical flower petals patterns
Step-by-step crochet instructions
Step 1
Make a foundation chain of 160 chain stitches (the number should be dividable by 40) plus 1 additional chain or multiples of 40 chains + 1 ch. Join the first and last chains with the slip stitch to crochet in the round.
Step 2
Crochet in the round 34 rounds or create 17 flowers
1st round – ch3, 1HP*, sk3, 1VP**, sk3, 1VP, 1HP, sk3, dc1, ch3, sk3, sc1, ch3, [sk3, dc1, 1HP, sk3, 1VP, sk3, 1VP, 1HP, sk3, dc1, ch3, sk3, sc1, ch3] to last 4 chains; sk4 plus sl.st.1 in the 3rd ch. after the starting point.
*HP – horizontal petal – ch3, [yo, insert a crochet hook into the 1st ch. of the 3 initial chains, and pull the yarn through, yo and pull the yarn through first 2 stitches on the hook] repeat that twice. Last time yo and pull the yarn through the 3 remaining stitches on your hook.
**VP – vertical petal or cluster– [yo, insert a hook into the base chain of the previous round / row, and pull the yarn through, yo, and pull the yarn through the 1st two sts on your hook] repeat 3 times. Lastly, yo and pull the yarn through the 4 remaining sts on the hook.
2nd round – ch4, sk HP, VP1 between two VPs of the previous round, ch3, VP1 in the same base ch., ch3, sk5, dc1, ch3, sk3, sc1, sk3, [ch3, sk3, dc1, ch3, sk HP, VP1, ch3, 1 VP in the same base ch., ch3, sk5, dc1, ch3, sk3, sc1] to last 4 chains; ch3, sk4 plus sl.st.1 in the 3rd ch. after the starting point.
3rd round – ch6, sk3, sc1, ch3, sk3, dc1, 1HP, sk3, 1VP, sk3, 1VP, 1HP, [sk3, dc1, ch3, sk3, sc1, ch3, sk3, dc1, 1HP, sk3, 1VP, sk3, 1VP, 1HP] to last 2 chains; sk2 plus sl.st.1 in the 3rd ch. after the starting point.
4th round – ch8, sk3, sc1, ch3, sk3, dc1, ch3, sk HP, 1VP, ch3, 1VP, [ch3, sk4, dc1, ch3, sk3, sc1, ch3, sk3, dc1, ch3, sk5, 1VP, ch3, 1VP] to last 5 chains; ch1, sk5 plus sl.st.1 in the 3rd ch. after the starting point.
Repeat the pattern two more times starting from the 1st round using the same size hook. You should work 12 rounds in total. Crochet next 12 rounds working the same pattern using a smaller size hook in order not decrease and then later increase chains. Work following 10 rounds with the larger size hook again.
Step 3
Back part
(use a half of your total number of chains and crochet right and wrong sides of rows)
1st row (right side) – ch4, [ch3, sk3, sc1, ch3, sk3, dc1, 1HP, sk3, 1VP, sk3, 1VP, 1HP, sk3, dc1] to end +2RC
2nd row (wrong side) – [ch3, 1VP, ch3, 1VP, ch3, sk5, dc1, ch3, sk3, sc1, ch3, sk3, dc1] to last 1ch., dc1 + 2RC
3rd row – [1HP, sk5, 1VP, sk3, 1VP, 1HP, sk3, dc1, ch3, sk3, sc1, ch3, sk3, dc1] to last 1 ch., dc1 +4RC
4th row – insert the hook into the 6th ch. from your hook, [dc1, ch3, sk3, sc1, ch3, sk3, dc1, ch3, sk4, 1VP, ch3, 1VP, ch3, sk HP] to end; dc1 + 3RC
5th row – insert your hook into the 6th ch. from the hook, dc1, [ch3, sk3, sc1, ch3, sk3, dc1, 1HP, sk3, 1VP, sk3, 1VP, 1HP, sk3, dc1] to end +2RC
Repeat the pattern starting from 2nd row. So, 6th row = 2nd row, 7th row = 3rd row, and 8th row = 4th row
Step 4
Shoulders
(use 20 chains)
9th row = 5th row
10th row = 2nd row
11th row = 3rd row
12th row = 4th row
Step 5
Front part
Work like the back part, but crochet 6 full rows for the body and 6 short rows for the shoulder pieces.
Step 6
Join the shoulder pieces together on the wrong side.
Step 7
Edges - sc to end.

Abbreviations
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
sk – skip chain
sl.st. – slip stitch
