Knitting women’s pullover - autumn birch leaves knitting pattern
Step-by-step knitting instructions
Step 1
Cast on 160 stitches or multiples of 8 stitches on two knitting needles (one circular needle and one double pointed needle) to make the first loops bigger.
Remove the double pointed needle and stretch your cast on stitches on the single circular needle to begin knitting in the round. Make sure that there is no twist in the cast on stitches. Move closer the loops to both tips of the needles before knitting your very first stitch.
Step 2
Pattern to knit in the round
(multiples of 8 sts)
1st round and all odd rounds – knit to end
2nd round – [k1, yo, k2, ddec1, k2, yo] to end
4th round – [k2, yo, k1, ddec1, k1, yo, k1] to end
6th round – [k3, yo, ddec1, yo, k2] to end
8th round – k2tog fl 1, [k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, ddec1] to last 6 sts; k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, k2tog bl 1.
10th round - k2tog fl 1, [k1, yo, k3, yo, k1, ddec1] to last 6 sts; k1, yo, k3, yo, k1, k2tog bl 1.
12th round – k2tog fl 1, [yo, k5, yo, ddec1] to last 6sts; yo, k5, yo, k2tog bl 1
Repeat the pattern starting from the 1st round 8 times or more depending on the desired length of the fabric.
Step 3
Front part
Pattern to knit rows
(mult. of 8 sts plus 2 additional sts)
Use 80 sts or a half of your total number of stitches and increase 2 sts.
1st row – [k1, yo, k2, ddec1, k2, yo] to last 2sts; k2
2nd row and all even rows – purl to end
3rd row – [k2, yo, k1, ddec1, k1, yo, k1] to last 2sts; k2
5th row – [k3, yo, ddec1, yo, k2] to last 2sts; k2
7th row – k2tog fl 1, [k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, ddec1] to last 8 sts; k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, dec1, k1.
9th row - k2tog fl 1, [k1, yo, k3, yo, k1, ddec1] to last 8 sts; k1, yo, k3, yo, k1, dec1, k1.
11th row – k2tog fl 1, [yo, k5, yo, ddec1] to last 8sts; yo, k5, yo, dec1, k1
Repeat the pattern starting from the 1st row one more time or knit 24 rows.
Step 4
1st front shoulder piece
Use 16 stitches and increase 2 sts
Repeat the 12 rows from the step 3 twice or knit 24 rows.
Cast off all the 18 stitches, cut the yarn, and secure it.
Step 5
2nd front shoulder piece
Attach the yarn 18 stitches before the end of the last row of the front part (24th row) and work the pattern for 24 rows. Then cast off all the 18 sts.
Step 6
Back part
Use the remaining 80 stitches and increase 2 additional stitches
Attach the yarn and repeat the rows like in the step 3 three times or work 36 rows.
Step 7
Back shoulder pieces
Work the shoulder pieces similarly to the front shoulder pieces, but work the pattern for 12 rows or repeat the pattern just one time.
Step 8
Join the front and back shoulder pieces together using a crochet hook or you may sew them from the wrong side.
Step 9
Sleeves
Cast on 48 stitches (8 x 6)
Repeat the pattern like in the step 2 seven times or until you reach the desired length of the garment. To widen the fabric, work the last round (85th round) – [k6, yo] to end. In addition, cast off all the stitches loosely.
Step 10
Joint the sleeves using a crochet hook or sew them into the knitted garment from the wrong side.
Step 11
Neck
Knit all stitches for 2 rounds. For the 1st round, use the existing loops and pick up the stitches on both shoulder pieces sides. Cast off all the stitches. Join the very last stitches of the 2nd round with the very 1st one, then cut the yarn, and secure it.

Hi Luz,

Hi Luz,
I would advise you to practice your gauge first. Cast on about 18 sts (2 x 8) +2. Then work several rows of step 3 to know your tension. Happy knitting!
