How to make Carrot Cake


Baking a carrot cake is a quick and easy process. Even people who don’t have much of practice on the kitchen can easily make it. In addition, it is very delicious treat. You can prepare it for a birthday party or even as everyday sweet for your children.
In order to bake this cake you need to have at least a large bowl and medium one, a large plate or cutting board, a measuring cup, and two 8 inches baking pans (they can have a square, round, rectangle or any other shape).

Ingredients for dough:

- 3 eggs

- 1 cup of vegetable oil or margarine

- 1 cup of white sugar

- 1 tsp. of vanilla extract

- 2 cups of all-purpose flour

- 1 tsp. of baking soda

- 1 tsp. of baking powder

- ½ tsp. of salt

-1 tsp. of ground cinnamon

- 2 cups of grated carrots

- ½ tsp. of citrus juice


Ingredients for cream:

- ½ cup of butter, softened

- 1 cup of sour cream

- 3 tbsp. of white (brown) sugar

*1 tbsp - table spoon (approximately 14.9 milliliters)
**1 tsp - tea spoon (app. 4.9 ml.)
***1 cup - 250 ml.

Cooking directions

Put all needed ingredients in front of you on a kitchen table. Pill and clean few carrots or one if it is very large. Grate carrots on a large plate or cutting board. Mix well in one large bowl eggs with sugar first then add there vegetable oil or softened margarine. After that add to the mixture flour, baking soda (pour over it citrus juice to see bobbles - this will eliminate taste of soda in your cake), baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Lastly add there grated carrots. Thoroughly mix everything again and set aside for a few minutes.

Preheat a gas oven to 350oF. Divide the ready dough to two equal parts. Grease baking pans’ bottoms and sides then dust it with flour. Pour half of the dough into one 8 in baking pan and other part of the dough into other same baking pan. Place both or one at a time baking pans into the preheated gas oven. Bake that for about 22-24 minutes. Check readiness with toothpick in the middle of the pan. If it comes out clean you can take it out. Leave it for about 7-10 minutes in the baking pan before transferring to the plate.


Soften in the microwave or oven butter for about 15 – 20 seconds and mix it with white sugar very well then add sour cream in the medium bowl. Mix all three ingredients again thoroughly and place it in the refrigerator.

Apply the cream over each cake layer and decorate it if you wish. Keep refrigerated.

Other way of baking the carrot cake

Some people don’t like to divide the dough into two equal parts; they rather prefer to bake the whole thing in one baking pan. You can do it too (it is up to you). You need just to bake it longer for about 40 – 45 minutes because you will have twice thicker dough in one baking pan.
