How to knit slippers

Part 1 video tutorial

Begin knitting the slippers from the heel to toes.

Heel

Cast on 10 sts
1st row – k to end
2nd row – sl.st.1, inc.1, k to last 2 sts; inc.1, k2
3rd row = 1st row
Alternate 2nd and 3rd rows until you have 16 sts on your needle.
Work following rows like your 3rd row until you knit 17 rows.

Upper

Cast on 30 sts more to have 46 sts in total on your needle.
1st round – p to end
2nd round – k to end
3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 rounds = 1st round
4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 rounds = 2nd round

Decrease 2 sts

16th round – k15, k2tog, k to last 3sts; k2tog, k1
Repeat the pattern starting from the 1st round until you knit to the end of your pinky toe.
Decrease 4 sts every other round until you knit to end of your last/longest toe.
50th round – (k8, k2tog) x 4
51st round and all other odd rounds = 1st round
52nd round – (k7, k2tog) x 4
54th round – (k6, k2tog) x 4
56th round – (k5, k2tog) x 4
58th round – (k4, k2tog) x 4
60th round – k2tog to end
62nd round – k2tog until you cover up the hole, cut the yarn and secure it

Second sole

Reuse the initial 10 cast on sts, attach the yarn and pick up 10 sts.

Increase

1st row – sl.st.1, k to end, pick1k
2nd row – sl.st.1, k to end, pick1p
Alternate the 1st and 2nd rows until you have 16 sts on your needle.
Knit rows joining them to long side loops of the 1st sole without increasing sts.
7th row – sl.st.1, k to last 1st; p2tog*
8th row – sl.st.1, k to last 1st; k2tog*
Alternate 7th and 8th rows until you’ll use up all the long side loops of the heel. Then work regular knit rows without joining them to the first sole.

Decrease

91st row – sl.st.1, (k2tog) x 2, k to last 5 sts; , (k2tog) x 2, k1
92nd row – sl.st.1, k to end
93rd row = 91st row
94th row = 92nd row
95th row – sl.st.1, k2tog to last 1st; k1, then cast off all the sts.

Top part

Reuse the 30 cast on sts of the upper. Pick up 30 sts.
1st row – sl.st.1, k to last 1st; k2tog*
2nd row – row – sl.st.1, k to last 1st; p2tog*
Alternate 1st and 2nd rows. Cast off all sts.

Finish up


Sew the 2nd sole with the 1st one. sew the top part to the upper. Decorate it.

k2tog* – knit the very last st of a row with front post of a long side loop of the 1st/2nd sole in order to join rows without increasing sts

pick1k – insert a needle into a front post of long side loop to pick one st up, and then knit it
pick1p – insert a needle into a back post of a long side loop to pick one st up, and then purl it
p2tog* – purl the very last st of a row with back post of a long side loop of the 1st/2nd sole in order to join rows without increasing sts
sl.st. – slip one stitch from the left needle to the right one without knitting it
