How to knit a raglan sweater for a child

Step-by-step knitting instructions
Step 1
Cast on 60 stitches or multiples of 13 stitches (the number of stitches may vary) + 8 stitches.
Mark the starting point.
Step 2
For the neck ribbing - knit 2 and purl 2 for 10 rounds.
Step 3
Begin gradually increasing the number of stitches from 4 sides.
1st row - [from the right side of a 1st st. reuse its base stitch to make a new stitch, knit 2, from the left side of a 2nd st. reuse its base stitch also to create a new stitch, knit 13] repeat 4 times.
(That way you will increase stitches without developing holes as it is with yarn over).
2nd row and all even rows - knit all stitches.
3rd row - knit 1, [from the right side of the 2nd st. pick 1 stitch up, knit 2, from the left side of the 3rd st. pick 1 stitch up, knit15] to last 16 sts, pick 1 stitch up, knit 2, pick 1 stitch up, knit 14.
5th row - knit 2, [from the right side of the 3rd st. reuse its base stitch to make a new stitch, knit 2, from the left side of the 4th st. reuse the base stitch to create a new stitch, knit17] to last 17 sts, pick 1 stitch up, knit 2, pick 1 stitch up, knit 15.
7th row - knit 3, [from the right side of the 4th st. reuse the base stitch to make a new stitch, knit 2, from the left side of the 5th st. reuse its base stitch to create a new stitch, knit19] to last 18 sts, pick 1 stitch up, knit 2, pick 1 stitch up, knit 16.
9th row - knit 4, [from the right side of the 5th st. pick 1 st. up, knit 2, from the left side of the 6th st. pick 1 st. up, knit21] to last 19 sts, pick 1 stitch up, knit 2, pick 1 stitch up, knit 17.
Step 4
New pattern
11th round - knit 1 and purl 1*.
12 - 20 rounds - purl all knit stitches and knit all purl stitches*.
*continue the increase every other round as you did for step 3.
21 - 27 rounds - knit all stitches and continue increasing 2 stitches from 4 sides every other round, shaping your front, back, and 2 shoulder pieces of the sweater*.
Step 5
Slide one shoulder piece on a safety pin.
For the front piece (28th round), knit1, pick 1 stitch up, knit 39, pick 1 st. up, knit1.
Slide second shoulder piece on a safety pin.
Connect front and back pieces, knit 1, pick 1 stitch up, knit 39, pick 1 st. up, knit1.
Begin to knit in round (29 - 78 rounds) without any increasing or decreasing stitches for about 50 rounds.
Step 6
Bottom ribbing - purl 2 and knit2 for 10 rounds.
Cast off, cut the yarn, and secure it.
Step 7
For the sleeve, slide all stitches onto double pointed knitting needles from the safety pin.
Attach the yarn.
Step 8
Pick up additional 2 stitches for the sleeve in order to avoid developing an underarm hole.
Begin to knit in round for 50 rounds gradually binding one stitch off every 4 rounds until 30 stitches left.
Step 9
Sleeve ribbing
1st round - purl 1 and knit 1 to end.
2nd round - knit 1 and purl 1 to end.
Repeat that few times.
Step 10
Cast off, cut the yarn, and secure it.
Step 11
Repeat steps 7 - 10 for the other sleeve.
