Step-by-step crochet instructions
Step 1
Make a foundation chain of 111 chain stitches (ch.sts) or multiples of 2 chs plus 1 additional ch. Work one slip stitch (sl.st.) to connect last and first chains together to form a ring, double checking that nothing is twisted. Proceed crocheting in round.
Step 2
1st round (right side) – single crochet (sc) to end plus sl.st.1
2 – 10 rounds (right side) – front loop sc (flsc) to end and sl.st.1 at the end of each round
Step 3
Nut pattern
11th round (wrong side) – ch.1, half nut 1*, ch.1, sk1, [nut 1**, ch.1, sk1] to end plus sl.st.1
*half nut – yarn over (yo), insert a crochet hook into the same base stitch, and pull the yarn through. You should have 3 stitches on your hook. Yo and pull the yarn through the first 2 sts on your hook. Yo and pull the yarn through the same base stitch again. You should have 4 sts on the hook. Yo and pull the yarn through the 1st 2 sts on your hook. Last time, yo and pull the yarn through the 3 stitches on the crochet hook.
**nut – *yo, insert a crochet hook into the same base stitch, and pull the yarn through. Yo and pull the yarn through the 1st 2 sts on your hook. Repeat from * two more times. Yo and pull the yarn through the 4 sts on the hook.
12th round (wrong side) – sc to end and sl.st.1
Repeat the pattern starting from 11th round
Step 4
Decrease
22nd round (wrong side) – [dec.1, sc 11] to last several chains, sc to end plus sl.st.1
dec – decrease. To decrease 1 chain, pull the yarn through 2 following chains from your hook. You should have 3 stitches on your hook. Yo and pull the yarn through the 3 sts.
You need to make 8 decreases in the round. In other words, at the end of the round, you should have 8 stitches less.
Step 5
23, 25, 27, 29, and 31 rounds = 11th round
24, 26, 28, and 30 rounds = 12th round
Step 6
32 - 38 rounds (right side) – sc to end and sl.st.1 at the end of each round
39th round = 11th round
Step 7
1st increase
40th round (wrong side) – [inc.1, sc 9] to end and sl.st.1
inc – increase. To increase, make sc2 on one chain.
41, 43, 45, 47, and 49 rounds = 11th round
42, 44, 46, and 48 rounds = 12th round
Step 8
2nd increase
50th round – [inc.1, sc 10] to end and sl.st.1
51, 53, 55, 57, and 59 rounds = 11th round
52, 54, 56, and 58 rounds = 12th round
Step 9
3rd increase
60th round – [inc.1, sc 11] to end and sl.st.1
61, 63, 65, and 67 rounds = 11th round
62, 64, 66, and 68 rounds = 12th round
Cut the yarn and secure it.
Step 10
Join 1st and 10th rounds leaving some hole to put the elastic inside. With help of a pin, pull the elastic all the way to the opening again. Make sure that the elastic is not twisted, and then sew both ends of it together.
