Crochet women’s top - wildflowers pattern
Step-by-step crochet instructions
For the size US 6, make a foundation chain of 107 chain stitches or multiples of 2 chains + 1 chain.
1st round – half double crochet (hdc) to end plus slip stitch (sl.st.) 1
2nd round – [hfb1, ch1] to end and sl.st.1
hfb – half flower bottom – yarn over (yo), insert a crochet hook into the same base chain, and pull the yarn through. You should have 3 stitches on your hook. *Insert the hook into the following chain, grab the yarn, and pull it through. Repeat from * one more time. You must have 5 stitches on your hook. Yo and pull the yarn through the 5 sts.
3rd round – [hdc2 in one ch., skip 1] to last 1 ch., skip 1 and sl.st.1
Repeat the pattern starting from the 2nd round for about 30 rounds or until you reach the desired length.
Important! In order not to reduce and then add chains while crocheting the project, use a smaller size crochet hook to work the middle of the garment with.
Work half of the total number of your chains for the front part using the wildflower pattern and decreasing chains from both sides evenly.
1st row – [hdc1, ch.1] to end
2nd row [skip 1, hdc2 backwards* in one ch.] to last 3 chains, skip 1, hdc1, skip 1
*hdc backwards – in order to keep the pattern on the right side of your work while crocheting the wrong side, insert the hook from the right side.
Repeat the pattern starting from 1st row for about 8 rows more
11th row – front loop hdc to end
12th row – back loop hdc backwards to end
Continue the pattern starting from the 11th row for few more rows.
Join the 15th row with the 11th one to create a space to put a tie in.
Step 5 (optional)
You may or may not want to crochet 2 back pieces, if it is desired to make a halterneck top.
One back piece
Continue the Wildflowers pattern for 27 chains or half of the remaining chains after you crocheted the front part. You should have 27 chains left for the second back part. Work the pattern decreasing chains from one side only.
Work front and back loop hdc for the last 5 rows the same as you did for the front part. Lastly, join the last and first rows of hdc together.
Repeat the above for the second back piece.
Make a foundation chain of about 150 chains plus 1 returning chain.
1st row – sl.st to end and ch.1
Do not turn your work to the wrong side; continue crocheting slip stitch like in round, using bottom loops of your initial foundation chain.
If desired, crochet one flower on each end of the tie.
