Step-by-step crochet instructions
Step 1
Create a foundation chain of 24 chain stitches plus 1 returning chain stitch.
To get started, you need to form a loop and put it to the left of your yarn. Then, it is necessary to insert the hook inside of the loop, grab the yarn, and pull it through. This will be your very first chain stitch.
From that first stitch, you need to make 23 more chain stitches. To do so, do yarn over (wrap the yarn over your hook) and pull it through the stitch which is lying on the crochet hook. Repeat the process for all the other chains.
Step 2
1st row (right side) - single crochet* to end plus 1 returning chain.
*Single crochet (SC) - to make one SC, you need to insert a crochet hook into the 2nd chain from your hook, yarn over (wrap the yarn over a hook), and pull it through the stitch resulting in having two stitches on your hook. After that do yarn over one more time and pull it through the 2 sts.
Step 3
2nd row (wrong side) - [front loop SC 1, reverse back loop SC 1] to end plus one returning chain.
Repeat that until you reach the desired length of your scarf.
Step 4 = Step 2
Your very last row will be like the first one. To know where your right side is, you need to look on the yarn tail that you left from the beginning. If it is on your left side then you are looking on right side of your crochet scarf. If it’s from your right side then you see the wrong side of the scarf.
Step 5
Edge
1st row (wrong side) – [decrease 1**, create 1 chain st.] to end.
**Decrease - insert a hook into the 2nd chain from your crochet hook, yarn over (wrap the yarn over a hook), and pull it through the stitch resulting in having two stitches on your hook. Then insert the hook into the third chain st. from your hook, grab the yarn, and pull it though again to have 3 sts on your crochet hook. After that do yarn over and pull the yarn through the 3 sts.
At the end of the row, cut the yarn and secure it.
Step 6
Attach the yarn and repeat step 5 for the other end of the scarf.
