Lace slouchy hat crochet pattern – easy for beginners stitch
Step-by-step crochet instructions
Step 1
Band
Use a smaller size crochet hook (F/5)
Make a foundation chain of 16 chains. I count all the loops including the loop on my hook.
1st row (wrong side) – h4ch, dc2, ch1, sk1, dc6, ch1, sk1, dc2 + RC3
2nd row (right side) – h4ch, dc2, ch1, sk4, dc3, dc1 into 2nd sk.ch, dc1 into 3rd sk.ch, dc1 into 4th sk.ch, ch1, sk1, dc2 + RC3
Alternate 1st and 2nd rows until you crochet 39 rows.
40th row = 2nd row, but use front loops only. That way, you’ll have loops to join the 39th row with the initial foundation chain to crochet in the round later.
41th row = 1st row
42nd row = 2nd row
43rd row - h4ch, dc2, sk1, dc6, sk1, dc2 – do not turn your work, sl.st.8 back to 39th row.
Step 2
Join 39th row with the initial foundation chain. Match chains closely before joining them together.
Step 3
Crochet in the round
1st round – ch2, cluster*1 under dc, ch1, [Vst*1 under dc, cluster 1 under dc, ch1] to end; dc1 into last ch, ch2, sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
*cluster – (yo, draw the yarn/loop though ch or under dc) x 3, yo, and pull the yarn through all 7 loops on your hook
*Vst – V-stitch – (dc1, ch2, dc1) into one ch or under dc
Use a larger size crochet hook (G/6)
2nd round – sl.st.1, ch5, dc1 into same ch, cluster 1 into Vst of prev.round, [ch1, Vst 1 above cluster of prev.round, cluster 1 into Vst of prev.round] to end; sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
3rd round – ch2, cluster 1 into Vst of prev.round, ch1, [Vst 1 above cluster of prev.round, cluster 1 into Vst of prev.round, ch1] to end; dc1 into last ch, ch2, sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
Alternate 2nd and 3rd rounds until you crochet 9 rounds in total.
