Step-by-step crochet instructions
Step 1
Bottom ribbing
Make a foundation chain of 11 chain stitches.
1st row – sc 9 plus RC1
2nd and all other rows – blsc 9 + RC1. Work the ribbing until you have 96 rows in total.
Join the very last and the first rows together to continue crocheting in the round.
Step 2
Body
Pick up 100* chains or more on the edge of the ribbing and work sc in the round for about 34 rounds or until you reach the desired length of the garment.
*the number of chains depends on the child’s chest circumference
Step 3
Front part
(work the pattern on 25 chains or ¼ of the total number of chain stitches)
1st row (right side) – sc to end plus RC1
2nd row (wrong side) – blsc backwards to end + RC1
Repeat the pattern on ¼ of the chains for 14 rows.
Step 4
Front shoulder part
(work the pattern on 15 chains)
Repeat the 1st and 2nd rows twice or work 4 rows in total.
Cut the yarn and secure it.
Step 5
Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the second front and front shoulder parts as a mirror reflection to the first front part.
Step 6
Back part
(work the pattern on 50 chs ( ½ of the total number of ch.sts) or on all the remaining chains)
Alternate the 1st and 2nd rows for 18 rows. The back part should have a shape of a rectangle.
Step 7
Join front shoulder parts to the back part matching the chains closely.
Step 8
Sleeve
Like in the step 1, make a ribbing, but work 24 rows instead of 96. Join the very last and the first rows together from the wrong side to hide the seam.
Pick up 36 chains on the edge of the sleeve ribbing and work sc for 34 rounds or until you reach the desired length of a sleeve.
Join the sleeve into the garment from the wrong side.
Step 9
Hood
1st row (right side) – pick up 60 chains on the neckline and make RC1
2nd row and all even rows (wrong side) – blsc backwards to end of the row + RC1
Increase
3rd row – [sc2 on 1ch, sc5] to end; work sc2 on the very last ch (after the 3rd row, you should have 11 chains more)
5th row – [sc2 on 1ch, sc6] to end; work sc2 on the very last ch (you should have 11 chs more)
7th row – sc to end + RC1
Alternate the 2nd and 7th rows until you have 30 rows in total.
Decrease
Continue crocheting the 2nd and 7th rows decreasing 1 chain at the middle of each row for 14 rows. After the decrease, you should have 14 chs less.
Fold the last row in half and join the remaining chains from the wrong side matching those chains closely. Cut the yarn and secure it.
Step 10
Hood’s edge
Attach the yarn at the bottom of the hood and pick up stitches working sc all the way around to the other bottom end of the hood. Turn your work to the wrong side and continue bldc all the way around back to the starting point.
To make the opening for the tie, join the bldc row with the first sc row using remaining front loops. Cut the yarn and secure it.
Step 11
Tie
Make a foundation chain of about 221 chains. Work sl.st. in each chain all the way across. Cut the yarn and secure it. With the help of a pin, insert the tie into the opening.
Step 12
Finish up
Sew in a zipper.
Decorate the pullover as desired. For the project, the toy fire truck applique was sewed on.

You may pick up about 80 chs

You may pick up about 80 chs on the top edge of the ribbing (step 2), and then use 20 chs for each front part (25%) and 40 chs for the back part (50%). Happy crochet!

Hai sana,

Hi Srilathachandra,

Hi Srilathachandra,
To crochet the hood, just single crochet the first row without increasing chains the same way as you would sc edges. Happy crochet!
