An average driver in the U.S. spends about $2,000 a year on fuel and people who drive much more than average 13,500 miles a year face even higher annual gas expenditures. With today constant rise in fuel prices for many individuals it is a lot and they try to reduce it in any way they can. However, unfortunately there is nothing pretty much to do about it, but whether to save on your wise driving or trying to reduce numbers of miles driven per year.

Drive wisely

Try not to drive for just short distances because then the car will take gas the most. The already running gas motor normally takes less fuel than it consumes to make car move from the complete stop position. Therefore, consider to walk the short distances whenever you can. Don’t leave your gas engine running when you need to stop your car for a while. For example, while you need to wait for someone in the car try to entertain yourself with something else, but not by listening the radio or watching DVD player on the back.

Usage of cooling and heating systems

Try using cooling and heating systems only when absolutely necessary. Don’t turn your cooling system on in relatively not that hot summer day, open the car window instead, for example. In contrast, if in the very hot day you need to do stop and wait on someone it is better not to turn the car gas engine off because that way the fuel usage will be less in comparing with cooling the vehicle after it hit its extremely high temperatures inside. In addition, it is recommended for keeping your car interior cool to use quality windshield sun shades while vehicle parked outside.

Don’t speed unnecessarily

When a driver is speeding the car motor should work harder in that period of time and therefore consume more fuel than usual. In contrast, driving in the city is totally not fuel-efficient because there are too many traffic lights and stop signs which require you to make frequent stops. Therefore, it is a good idea to use highways whenever you can as long as there are no traffic jams on them as well.
Driving in such areas where there are lots of hills and valleys is also not good for fuel economy. Therefore, before hitting the road make sure that you use the best road for your gas economy and not just the shortest way. Sometimes the shortest ways might take longer to get to your destination point and plus waste more gasoline than if you would choose one or two miles longer road.

Don’t carry heavy loads

Heavy loads also make your car engine work harder especially in the areas where strong winds are common. Your gas motor will take more fuel to overcome such pressure. Therefore, it is wise to unload your vehicle as soon as you get home and don’t drive anywhere else with the heavy things on board.
