1st row – (right side) – h5ch, ((trc1, ch1) x 4) into 1ch, sk5, sl.st.1, ch1, sk5, ((trc1, ch1) x 3, trc1) into 1ch + RC3
2nd row – h4ch, dc3 into 1ch, dc5, dc dec 1, dc5, dc3 into 1ch + RC3
3rd row – h4ch, Vst, (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, dc dec 1, (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, Vst + RC3
4th row (1st shoulder piece) - h4ch, dc3 into 1ch, dc5, dc dec 1, dc5, dc3 into 1ch + RC1
5th row – h2ch, sl.st.1, ch4, sk1, trc dec, ch6, sk1, sl.st.1, ch35
Step 2
2nd shoulder piece
Make a foundation chain of 18 chs
1st row = 1st row of 1st shoulder piece
2nd row = 2nd row
3rd row = 3rd row
4th row (2nd shoulder piece) - h4ch, dc3 into 1ch, dc5, dc dec 1, dc5, dc3 into 1ch
Step 3
Join 1st and 2nd shoulder pieces together
After you create 35 chs (5th row of the 1st shoulder piece), insert your hook into a last loop of 2nd shoulder piece and continue working the 5th row.
5th row (2nd shoulder piece) – h1ch, sl.st.1, ch4, sk1, trc dec, ch6, sk1, sl.st.1 + RC1
Step 4
Front part
6th row – h2ch, sl.st.1, [ch1, sk5, ((trc1, ch1) x 7) into 1ch, sk5, sl.st.1] to end + RC3
Ripple stitch rows
7th row – h4ch, dec*, [dc5, dc5 into 1ch, dc5, dc dec] to last repeat; dc5, dc5 into 1ch, dc5, dec* + RC3
8th row – h4ch, dec*, [(ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, shell, (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, dc dec] to last repeat; (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, shell, (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, dec* + RC3
Alternate 7th and 8th rows until you crochet 11 rows or as many as necessary.

Step 5
Back part
Repeat steps 1 – 4 for the back part, but work 2 more rows or 13 rows.
In order not to join shoulder pieces later one, you may reuse foundation chains of both front shoulder pieces to work two back shoulder pieces.
Step 6
Body
Join front and back parts together
Work sl.st.1 into 3rd ch of the front part, and then continue crocheting in the round.
1st round – ch3, dec*, [(ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, shell, (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, dc dec] to last repeat of the front part; (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, shell, (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2…
Join front and back parts together second time.
Return to the 11th row of the front part, insert the hook into the last loop and work sl.st.1 into the 3rd ch of the back part.
…. then continue crochet the 1st round – ch1, sk1, dc dec, [(ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, shell, (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, dc dec] to last repeat of the back part; (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, shell, (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, unfinished dc, sk1, unfinished dc + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch pulling the yarn through 3 loops on the hook
Ripple stitch rounds
2nd round – ch3, dec*, [dc5, dc5 into 1ch, dc5, dc dec] to last repeat; dc5, dc5 into 1ch, dc5, work unfinished dc + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch pulling the yarn through 2 loops on the hook
3rd round – ch3, dec*, [(ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, shell, (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, dc dec] to last repeat; (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, shell, (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, unfinished dc + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch pulling the yarn through 2 loops on the hook
Repeat the two above rounds of the pattern for about 8 times
Step 7
Use a larger size crochet hook
17th round – sl.st.8, [ch4, sk1, trc dec, ch6, sk1, sl.st.1] to end
18th round – [ch1, sk5, (trc1, ch1) x 7 into 1ch, sk5, sl.st.1] to end
19 & 21 rounds = 2nd round
20th round = 3rd round
Step 8
Sleeves
Work 3 or more repeats in the round
Crochet the 1st round similar to the 3rd round (step 5), but instead of skipping 1 ch, skip some about the same space/interval. In addition, finish the round with one unfinished dc, sk some space, one unfinished dc + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch pulling the yarn through 3 loops on the hook.
Then repeat the 2 Ripples stitch rounds (2nd and 3rd rounds) for about 11 times.
Use a larger size crochet hook to about your elbows, and then continue crocheting using a smaller size crochet hook to end of each sleeve.
Last 5 sleeve rounds = last 5 body rounds (step 6), but use a smaller size crochet hook.
Step 9
Neckline

Hi Sana, thank you for

Hi Sana, thank you for sharing one more beautiful work. In my case, my chest is 42" while my belly is 44", so how many chains should i make at step 3 to join the shoulder pieces?
Thank you so much for your guide :)

I would advise you to crochet

I would advise you to crochet one shoulder piece (this is one repeat), and then estimate how many repeats you need to work to your chest circumference accordingly. If your gauge will be about the same as mine, I would add 12 chs to 35 chs at the end of the 5th row (1st shoulder piece). I would suggest using a larger size crochet hook starting from about underbust to widen the garment. Happy crochet!

Thanks for your quick

Thanks for your quick response. I'm using thinner thread (hook 3.5) and my gauge is only 7cm for a repeat. Is there anyway to adjust the chains to make a gauge of 9cm like yours? Sorry for this question, but I learn crochet by repeat exactly what you teach, so I lack the basic knowledge. And thank you for being very patient with me in this and other instructions. Have a nice day :)

Hi Diane C,

Hi Diane C,
To get the same gauge as mine, it is necessary to use a yarn of about the same thickness and crochet hook of about the same size or larger if you crochet tightly. You may still use your gauge (1repeat = 7 cm), but I would suggest working 2 repeats for each shoulder piece and 4 repeats in between these shoulder pieces. If you decide to do so, I'll help you with the initial foundation chain. Happy crochet!

Dear Sana, it shall be great

Dear Sana, it shall be great if you help me with new number of chains. Im living in the tropical country, so I only use the coton threads to make blouses. That's why I always get smaller gauge than yours.
Thank you for being very patient to me :)

Hi Diane C.,

Hi Diane C.,
To work 2 repeats for each shoulder piece, I would suggest to start with 30 chs and adjust the 1st 5 rows as follows:
1st row - h5ch, ((trc1, ch1) x 4) into 1ch, sk5, sl.st.1, ch1, sk5, ((trc1, ch1) x 7) into 1ch, sk5, sl.st.1, ch1, sk5, ((trc1, ch1) x 3, trc1) into 1ch + RC3
2nd row - h4ch, dc3 into 1ch, dc5, dc dec 1, dc5, dc5 into 1ch, dc5, dc dec 1, dc5, dc3 into 1ch + RC3
3rd row – h4ch, Vst, (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, dc dec 1, (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, shell, (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, dc dec, (ch1, sk1, dc1) x 2, ch1, sk1, Vst + RC3
4th row (1st shoulder piece) - h4ch, dc3 into 1ch, dc5, dc dec 1, dc5, dc5 into 1ch, dc5, dc dec 1, dc5, dc3 into 1ch + RC1
5th row – h2ch, sl.st.1, [ch4, sk1, trc dec, ch6, sk1, sl.st.1] x 2, ch47*
*ch47 = (3 x 12) +11
Then follow the pattern exactly. Work more repeats for each sleeve to your upper arm circumference accordingly. Happy crochet!

Hi Sana, it's me again :)

Hi Sana, it's me again :)
As I keep changing the colors of the sweater, so if I make 2 extra rows in the back part (step 5) before joining the front and back part together, the color will not match. So, can I add the 2 extra rows in the back shoulder pieces instead? (step 1 and 2)?
Can't wait to hear from you.
Best wishes,

Hi Diane C.,

Hi Diane C.,
If you want to match colors, I would suggest working the front part totally the same as the back one. Happy crocheting!
