In 5 weeks after purchase, we received the ToyotaCare Owner Profile by mail.

Free service

No out of pocket maintenance plan plus roadside assistance for the first two years was one of the factors why we bought 2016 Toyota Camry. In theory, by 2018 we don’t have to worry about car maintenance or any mechanical issues at all. In practice we didn’t try it yet, but it seems like a huge benefit for new Toyota owners.

What ToyotaCare covers

There are basically two separate plans included in ToyotaCare.
1. Maintenance
Every 6 months or 5,000 miles Toyota will perform tire rotation, multipoint vehicle inspection, all fluid levels inspection and adjustment.
Every 12 months or 10,000 synthetic oil and oil filter replacement. It’s 2 times free oil change.
There is also a notice: the plan includes 4 services under ToyotaCare.
According to the profile we received, our no cost two years / 25,000 miles service will be provided by appointment at any participating Toyota dealership. Also it is possible to schedule maintenance online.
2. Roadside Assistance
Battery jump start
It’s good to make such offer, but if it is a new car there is very low possibility the battery will die in the first 2 years. On the other hand, if it will, there could be other issues with electric system including alternator or starter fails, and that is something you don’t want to happen with a new car. We live in the climate with 4 – 5 months real winter, and none of the battery in our previous cars got out of energy in the first four years after purchased new.
Emergency fuel delivery
This might be useful for someone, who doesn’t pay attention to fuel gauge or distance to empty warning. We never stopped because run out of fuel, but anything could happen especially if you travel in places with limited gas stations on the way.
Lockout protection
If you lock the car and, for some reason, cannot open it Toyota will help to resolve the issue.
Towing
Even though it is a new vehicle, there is always a possibility the car incapable of moving forward with standard equipment and needs to be towed. We certainly didn’t buy new Toyota Camry to stop in the middle of nowhere during first two years, but if such thing happen Toyota will tow the car to the nearest dealership, or to Toyota dealership of owner’s choice within 25 miles of nearest dealer.
Tire service
Flat tire will be replaced with a spare one. It might be a useful assistance for my wife who never changed a flat tire before.
Winching
If your Toyota Camry stuck in mud, sand, snow, or any ditch, Toyota will help with extrication. This could be useful for us. Some winters brings severe snowstorms with 5 – 7 inches of snow falls at a time. In such conditions, it is very easy to get stuck on the road even if your car has good winter tires.
With all these help offered on the road, you have to remember that the free assistance does not include parts and fluids, except emergency fuel delivery.
We didn’t call 24-hour Toyota roadside service yet, so cannot tell how it works, and whether it is worthy assistance, but will keep the ToyotaCare owner profile in the car in case we really need help on the road.

And there is a reminder

Use only Genuine Toyota Accessories. Toyota recommends to install and use only Toyota Genuine Accessories. It might not be a good idea to perform some “freestyle” car improvements using unapproved parts for your new Toyota vehicle.
